Lomita

Rosario Menor (Marcellana) Abastillas, 79, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her own home on May 28, 2024 in the loving care of her son Rosaldo and daughter-in-law Kelly. Rosario was the daughter of Domiciano Sison Menor and Loreto Maya (Laurinia) Marcellana, born in Sta. Cruz, Zambales, Philippines on 2/2/45. Rosario was the loving and dedicated wife of Salcedo Cabal Abastillas who predeceased her in 2015 after 46 years of marriage.

Rosario is survived by her son Arden Abastillas and his wife Carmina (Candi) of Vancouver, Canada, and her son Rosaldo Abastillas and his wife Kelly McCann of Lomita, California. Also surviving her is her sister Evelyn (Belen) and her grandchildren Alissa, Caitlin, and Arianna. Rosario was predeceased by her siblings Preciosisima (Precy), Zenaida (Aida), and Robert.

Rosario, known as 'Rosie' to her school friends, was a loving and caring daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. On August 3, 1969 she married the love of her life Salcedo Abastillas in the Philippines and soon after moved to the United States to support him while he was stationed there in the Navy. Rosario received her Certificate of Naturalization in 1981 and just prior to settling down in Long Beach in 1985 she began working for the United States Department of the Navy as the Lead Child Development Program Assistant where she loved playing with and taking care of children before retiring in 1996.

For enjoyment, Rosario and her son Rosaldo spent every Monday together walking around the mall, shopping, and going out to lunch. Although she did not travel much after settling in Long Beach, for the last 9 years Rosario enjoyed traveling to spend the Christmas holidays in Connecticut with her son Rosaldo and his wife Kelly’s family. She has also enjoyed spending time with her son Arden and his family in Canada and traveling to visit family and friends in the Philippines.

A private Memorial Service for family and friends will take place Saturday, June 15, 2024 at Coastal Funeral Center, 25001 Narbonne Ave, Lomita, CA 90717. A prayer service will be held at 3:00 pm. Rosario will be at peace with her late husband and will remain together forever at the VA Cemetery in West Los Angeles, CA at a later date.
