Pablo Diaz, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, parishioner, and community volunteer, passed away surrounded by the love of his family and faith.
Born in Morenci, Arizona, a small mining town, Pablo was one of six children — four boys and two girls — and the second youngest in the family. As a young boy, he faithfully served early morning Mass alongside his brothers, as the family home was located on the same street as their parish church. His high school years were filled with close friendships and a love for basketball.
Rather than follow many into the mines, Pablo chose to serve his country by joining the United States Air Force. While stationed in England, he met the love of his life, Joan. The two dated, became engaged, and were married in 1964 at Mary Star of the Sea Church in San Pedro. Together they built a loving family, welcoming their daughters in 1965 and 1968.
Pablo worked for Metropolitan Life and State Farm Insurance for more than 30 years, building a career marked by dedication and integrity.
Around 1970, Pablo and Joan became members of St. Margaret Mary Church, where they remained active parishioners for approximately 55 years. Pablo generously served the parish in many ways, including as a former Holy Name president, Eucharistic minister, Marriage Encounter participant, and fair board member.
Faith was at the center of Pablo’s life. He and Joan raised their daughters in the Catholic Church, attending weekly Mass and ensuring their girls received all of their sacraments while attending St. Margaret Mary Church and Bishop Montgomery High School.
Pablo was also an avid runner who completed numerous 10K races and several half marathons. He devoted many years to soccer as both a referee and national trainer, officiating matches for men, women, and youth throughout the South Bay area.
Always committed to serving others, Pablo volunteered at Torrance Memorial Medical Center for more than 16 years.
Pablo is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Joan; his daughters, Karen (Jon Carlee Jordan) and Michelle (Sebastian); and his sister, Theresa Carrillo. He will be remembered for his deep faith, generous spirit, dedication to family, and lifelong service to his community.
