On February 20, 2025, Oscar Baluyot Ramos, at the age of 73, took his last breath surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren, family and friends after a valiant fight against pancreatic cancer. Oscar’s lasting legacy was devoting his life to service to his country, his community, and his family.
Oscar was born on February 10, 1952 to his parents Antonio Guzman Ramos Sr. and Angelina Baluyot Ramos and grew up on Omboy Street in Abucay, Bataan Philippines. He is the second child with four brothers-Renato, Antonio Jr., Edguardo, and Cesar and one sister-Rosalina. Oscar went to Tomas Pinpin Memorial Elementary School. He then attended Arrellano Memorial High School in Balanga, Bataan. He was proudly elected senior high school president for his Batch 1969 class. In 2002, Oscar had the privilege to be the invited guest speaker for the graduating class of Tomas Pinpin Memorial Elementary School.
Oscar immigrated to America in 1972 when his father’s petition was granted to unite their family. They all lived together in the Naval base in San Pedro, CA. Oscar enlisted in the Air Force in 1973 and was stationed in Texas for 4 years. He continued his service as a reserve in the California Air National Guard in Merced, CA. Back in Southern California, he worked for Monroe System/Litton Industry as a field representative for many years.
Oscar has been a resident of the city of Carson since 1977. He has been very active and dedicated to his favorite city and never wanted to leave. He was Overall Chairman of the Philippine Independence Day Planning committee held at Veteran’s Park from 2006-2010. Oscar was an honorable recipient of the Harmony Award in 2008 for individuals who promote unity, harmony, and diversity in the City of Carson. His involvement in Carson includes being Commissioner of Citywide Advisory, Beautification, and Bully Prevention. Most recently, he served as a Commissioner of Carson’s Park, Recreation, and Cultural Art for over 7 years and his name is engraved on the dedication plaques at Dolphin and Foisia Park.
In 1979, he met his beautiful and kind wife Nenita (Neneth) in San Diego, California. They both grew up together in the same province of the Philippines. They married on October 20, 1979. Oscar and Nenita have three wonderful children, Ryhan, Tricia (Gacula), and Jessica. He took joy in bringing his children to school at St. Philomena Elementary School in Carson, CA and Bishop Montgomery High School in Torrance, CA. He prides himself that all three of his children are college graduates because he would say, “Your education is something no one can take away from you”. His favorite role in life is being the best Lolo to his 5 amazing grandchildren-Greyson, Nova, Ethan, Westley, and Abigail. He loved spending time with family, cooking the most delicious Filipino food, taking walks around Carson parks, helping others, and going to the casino for fun times.
In May 2024, Oscar and his family were planning a trip to the Philippines to celebrate his mother's 100th Birthday. Unfortunately, a routine blood test led to more tests that diagnosed him with early stages of pancreatic cancer. Oscar remained a fighter and optimist throughout his severe major surgery, numerous blood draws and scans, and rigorous chemo therapy.
Oscar Ramos is survived by his wife Nenita, his children-Ryhan, Tricia, and Jessica, his grandchildren-Greyson, Nova, Ethan, Westley, and Abigail, his mother Angelina, and his siblings-Antonio II, Edguardo, and Cesar.
Oscar is preceded in death by his father Antonio Sr. and his siblings- Renato and Rosalina.
Oscar will be remembered for his great advice and conversations, his love for politics, his service to his community, his dedication to his family, and his delicious home cooking (he made the best karekare, mechado, and pancit). His spirit and legacy now lives on through the great love and work he has done for his community and family. Oscar’s life and presence will be missed and treasured by his loved ones.
