Octavio Barragan Jr. died unexpectedly on May 17, 2025, at his residence in Carson, CA. He was known as “Tavito” to his family, “Okie” to his friends, and was only 63 years old at the time of his passing. The family is deeply saddened and shocked by his sudden death.
Octavio was born on September 3, 1961 in Los Angeles, CA to Octavio Sr. and Yolanda. He is survived by his parents, 4 siblings: Myrna, Carlos, Miriam, and Raul, his 3 children: Eric, Danielle, and Ryan, his 2 grandchildren: Adrian and Ashton, along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Octavio really encouraged education, having graduated High School from Don Bosco Technical Institute and obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Pepperdine University majoring in Business. Octavio worked as a Materials Engineer in the aerospace industry for over 35 years with Hughes Aircraft Company, Boeing, and L3 Communications. He also worked part-time as a golf Marshall and volunteered yearly at the Genesis Invitational after his retirement.
Octavio was a SCUBA Divemaster, an equestrian horse rider, rode motorcycles, and was a movie buff. He had many hobbies including golfing, hiking, reading, photography, and playing video games. He loved to cook, traveled to over 20 countries worldwide, enjoyed watching the Three Stooges, played chess, and kept busy with many projects around his house.
Octavio was loved, well respected, and will truly be missed by everyone. For all those who are interested, services will be held on Friday June 6, 2025 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Coastal Funeral Center in Lomita, CA.
