Monier Ayoub Bowlus, known to family and friends as "Bo," passed away peacefully on July 5, 2026, at the age of 95, with his family by his side.
Born on August 10, 1930, in Littleton, Colorado, to Charles Ayoub Bowlus and Helen Majeed Bowlus, Bo graduated from Littleton High School in 1948 before earning a Bachelor of Science degree from Regis College. He began his career serving his country in the United States Air Force, initially stationed in Japan and Korea and later at Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi, where he met the love of his life and wife of 64 years, Sara Ann Lawson. Following his honorable discharge from active duty in 1956, he continued his military service in the Air Force Reserve for more than three decades, retiring in 1990 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
After their marriage, Bo and Sara made their home in Southern California, living first in Inglewood, then Torrance, and finally Rancho Palos Verdes, where Bo spent the last 57 years of his life. Following brief careers as an engineer with Ramo-Wooldridge and as a real estate agent, Bo earned his general contractor's license. Together, he and Sara founded Bowlus Development Company, combining their talents to build a successful family business.
Bo was a devoted member of St. John Fisher Catholic Church, where his faith inspired a lifetime of service to others. He generously volunteered wherever he was needed, most recently at the Palos Verdes Resale Thrift Shop, and was an active member of several service organizations, including the Knights of Columbus and Sertoma.
A lifelong tinkerer, Bo delighted in solving problems, building things with his hands, and sharing his curiosity with others. He was especially passionate about model railroading and remained an active member of the Belmont Shore Model Railroad Club until his passing.
Bo will be remembered for his warm smile, quick wit, generous spirit, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend whose kindness, humor, and quiet strength touched everyone who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sara Ann Bowlus; his son, Charles M. Bowlus; and his brothers, Kamel Bowlus and Saleim Bowlus.
He is survived by his children, Carolyn A. Roy-Waltman and her husband Charles, Andrew S. Bowlus, and Christopher L. Bowlus and his wife, Jill; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at St. John Fisher Catholic Church, 5448 Crest Road, Rancho Palos Verdes, California.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to one of Bo's favorite charities in his memory.
