Michael David Belland

Michael David Belland, beloved husband, father, and brother, was born on November 9, 1940 in Ancon, Panama Canal Zone, an American territory in Panama. After his father's service in World War II, the family moved to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Michael attended what is now Michigan Technological University where he obtained a bachelor's degree in Physics. After graduation Michael moved to Southern California where he worked as a programming specialist at North American Aviation and later at Northrop Grumman, from which he retired at the end of 2007.

In 1975 Michael married Kathryn Gould. Michael was known for his deep Catholic faith, his ready sense of humor, his wide-ranging knowledge, and his cheerful demeanor. His interests included chess, history, and science fiction. As a young man he was a competitive fencer and chess player.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Margaret Belland. He is survived by his wife Kathryn, daughter Genevieve (Gregory) Erkens, sons David (Katie) Belland and Joseph (Anne Marie) Belland, his sister Mary Ellen (Christopher) Dancisak, and 11 grandchildren. Interment will be at Green Hills Memorial Park.
