Martha Annie Lent Roberts, age 89, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus on February 27, 2023. She was born in Long Beach, Ca to Richard and Margaret Lent. There she grew up with her older sisters Peggy and Betty and younger brother Dick. From a young age she loved to dance, taking tap lessons from the age of 3. That love carried on until shortly before her death. She especially loved to tap, but she also learned to hula and modern dance among other forms through the city of Torrance Parks and Recreation. She did interpretive dance at her church and danced semi-professionally in a dance troupe that performed all over the area.
In high-school she met her future husband Gene Roberts. They married right out of high school and moved to Torrance. There they raised four children, Billy, Tommy, Perry and Shirley. They joined Walteria United Methodist Church where she was very involved. She loved teaching 3rd and 4th grade Sunday school, and would also help with chancel care, delivering food to people in need and help with serving meals to the homeless. She also volunteered, as a boy scout and girl scout leader, at head start and in many other ways.
After the loss of her son Tommy and subsequent divorce, she went back to work at a number of businesses including the Bible Book Store, Action Marketing Group, Honda, secretary at Walteria United Methodist Church and Jessie Lord Bakery among others.
She began dating and fell in love with Serge Lehara. They spent many wonderful years together, vacationing in Pismo Beach and San Francisco, cruising the California coast and attending many concerts.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings and son Tommy. She is survived by her partner Serge, her siblings Patty, Susie, Bobby and Carol, her children Bill (Mary), Perry (Melody), Shirley (Wayne) Schaller, along with 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Martha was a positive ray of sunshine and was loved by her whole family and everyone who ever met her.
