Obituary of David Elwin Cobabe Sr.

David Elwin Cobabe Sr. of Palos Verdes Estates passed away on Saturday, December 16th,2023 at the age of 92 with his wife Betty beside him.

David was born on November 15, 1931 the son of Vernon L and Jane (Neibaur) Cobabe of Redondo Beach. David was the 10th of 12 siblings, and he was the only surviving member of the original Cobabe family.

He grew up in Redondo Beach and attended Redondo Beach Union High School, where he was very active in Football, Wrestling and other student activities. He was also elected Class President of his Senior Class.

Dave became a well respected Master Plumber and after graduation Dave joined his brothers and father in their family business, Cobabe Brothers Plumbing. They constructed everything from single family homes and apartment buildings to high rise buildings throughout the greater Los Angeles area.

In 1986 David bought out the company, changing the name to Cobabe Inc. and it continued as such until 1992 when he retired and closed the business. There are many buildings still standing in Los Angeles that bear the Cobabe touch.

A life long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Dave was very active in the Church spending most of his time serving the youth in the church.
He spent many years as a Scoutmaster and was instrumental in many young men achieving the level of Eagle Scout.

He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Betty Boman Cobabe, son David E Cobabe Jr. (Marie Fitzgerald), son Gerald M Cobabe and daughter Diane M Cobabe Varney (Norman Varney) as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is proceeded in death by son Richard Mark Cobabe(who is survived by his wife Christine L Cobabe). 

The Cobabe family wishes to express our sincere thanks to the staff at The Twin Palms Homecare, Beechfield Home and Red Heart Hospice for their loving care and concern for our father. We will cherish the relationships that were developed in such a short time.

The service will be held at the Crestridge Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 5845 Crestridge Rd, Rancho Palos Verdes on Saturday, December the 23rd, 2023.

The viewing will begin at 10:00 AM followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM
