IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Darlene
Young
February 7, 1950 – March 14, 2026
Mass
St John Fisher Church
11:00 am - 12:00 pm (Pacific time)
A Sister of Charity of Rolling Hills for 51 years, Sr. Darlene was full of faith and trust in God’s Providence, and of love and loyalty for family, Church and her religious community. She died peacefully, at home, with her community, after a long illness that she kept private.
When she joined the community, she readily stepped into our work with the poor, and eventually it became her responsibility. She helped others, and she had a gift of welcoming them into her work if they in turn wanted to help others. She was a woman of contradictions and balancing forces: zeal and tenderness, determination and patience, justice and…well, there was no balance to that. She was a native Californian, in a tiny community, but she developed a network of serving those in need that extends all over the Los Angeles area, and into Latin America and the African continent.
Sr. Darlene, our “force of nature,” leaves a hole in our community and in our hearts, but we rejoice that she is at home with the God she loved so deeply. Her funeral is on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at 11:00, St. John Fisher, 5448 Crest Rd., Rancho Palos Verdes.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Sisters of Charity of Rolling Hills in general, or to an earmarked fund for food gift cards (28600 Palos Verdes Dr. East, Rancho Palos Verdes, 90275).
