Clifford Denny Matthews

Clifford Denny Matthews, 70 years old, of Torrance, California passed away peacefully on Sunday July 09, 2023 in hospice at All Hearts Residential Home.

Clifford was born on July 15, 1952 to Grace and Billy Matthews. He was a Torrance High School graduate and he graduated in 1970. After High School Clifford attended college at Cal State Long Beach and graduated with a BS in business and marketing.

Clifford married Cathy Pipitone in 1980 and they had three children together, Clifford Denny Matthews II, Stephen William Matthews, and Savannah Marie Matthews. They later divorced but remained close throughout the years and raised their three children together. Clifford also has one grandson Nico Matthews whom he adored.

Clifford worked as a grocery store manager and later store manager for over 20 years before transferring to Frito-Lay, until he retired in 2015 due to his beginning stages of early onset dementia and Alzheimer’s. Cliff won many awards for his exemplary service at both jobs.

In his earlier years, Cliff loved to golf, play tennis and racquetball. He also enjoyed camping and fishing trips with his family. He loved to play cards, do puzzles and watch movies with his family. Cliff was a jokester and loved to playfully tease everyone. He also loved animals especially his dogs Capone, Mac and his daughter’s pig Winston.

Clifford is survived by his three children, Cliff Jr., Stephen and Savannah, and his one and only grandson Nico Matthews, his brothers Mark and Brian, and sisters Connie, Holly, and Melody and many nieces and nephews.

Family, friends and others who would like to honor Cliff by reminiscing, celebrating his life and supporting family and each other are invited to his celebration of life on Friday July 28, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Coastal Funeral Center located at 25001 Narbonne Avenue, Lomita, California 90717.
