Arthur J. Attean passed peacefully surrounded by the love and care of family, friends and caregivers. Born to Jean and Peter Attean in Stamford, Connecticut, he grew up in Sarasota, Florida until he joined the Navy at the age of 17. While stationed in San Diego, California he met the love of his life, Emily. They married in November of 1965 and made Wilmington, California their home. They had two daughters, Theresa and Jean. Art referred to their births as the happiest days of his life.
Art spent his whole work life at the Mobil Refinery in Torrance, California and retired after 35 years. It was there that he proudly became known as "Chief" due to his background as a member of the Penobscot tribe in Maine. Outside of work he would often go out of his way to travel by train, hang out at the Fullerton Depot, work on steam engines, or drive any route that would cross a railroad track just in the hopes that he would get stuck and "have to" watch the train go by.
He leaves behind his sister Barbara, daughters Theresa and Jean, grandson Raymond, his beloved dog Luke, and many nieces, nephews, in-laws, God-children and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, or any Veteran-related charity.
