Alma Judith Moreno

On October 16th, 1973, parents Raul and Patricia Moreno welcomed their first daughter, Alma Judith Moreno, into their arms. Alma was born in Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico, surrounded by warm beaches and endless sun. Still, her parents knew there were better opportunities for their young family outside of Mexico, so they traveled north to the United States and called Los Angeles home in 1975.

 Alma grew up around family, the love of her sister, Veronica, tías, abuelas, and primos. Family barbeques, sleepovers, and trips to the beach filled her younger years. Alma was always creative. In school, she took an interest in art, writing, dancing, and theater. She was an artist at heart and spent her adolescence at concerts, listening and dancing to music with her sister and friends. Alma was the first in her family to graduate high school in 1992, which signified a huge milestone and a confirmation of the American Dream for her parents.

 Ask anyone who knew Alma, and they'll tell you that she was a free spirit who could never be broken by anything. She went where her wings took her. This led to a diverse career in several industries, from hospitality and service to medical and legal, later translating into entrepreneurship. Leaving home, Alma lived in cities across Southern California, and she traveled with any free time she had from Mexico and as far as Jamaica. Stateside, she fell in love with Lake Tahoe and the mountains in Northern Nevada, making Reno her new home in 2007. Her travels never stopped, sunbathing in Miami, ice skating in Canada, and hiking in Sedona - she said yes to life and lived it to the fullest! She did all that while raising three beautiful girls, Cassidy, Melody, and Alany. This was her proudest accomplishment and legacy.

 It's difficult to capture such a colorful and dynamic life, and a page doesn't do it justice. Alma is undoubtedly a fighter, and her fight against cancer was the last one. After fighting for almost six years, she passed peacefully, surrounded by her parents, sister, daughters, and granddaughter, Raya Sunshine. Her fight is over, but her memory will live in the souls of those she's touched deeply. After all, in Spanish, the name Alma means soul.

 Have a big appetite! For food, of course, but also for life. Love your family despite your differences. Laugh with friends and lean on them. No one should be alone. Believe in God or something that connects you to a greater purpose and meaning. Travel because new places and people expand your perspective. Sing off tune and dance always - who cares who's watching! Most importantly, say yes to the best and don't be afraid of what comes next.

 Alma Judith Moreno passed away in Torrance, California, on Friday, August 2nd, 2024. She leaves behind three daughters, Cassidy, Melody, and Alany, and her only granddaughter, Raya. Surrounded by love until the very end, Alma also leaves behind her parents, Raul and Patricia, along with her sister, Veronica. Alma leaves her loved nieces Patty, Crystal, Hennessy, Natalia, Annalie, and Brooklyn. She was proud of them and all the women in her family.

El 16 de octubre de 1973, los padres Raúl y Patricia Moreno recibieron en brazos a su primera hija, Alma Judith Moreno. Alma nació en Mazatlán, Sinaloa, México, rodeada de cálidas playas y sol interminable. Aún así, sus padres sabían que había mejores oportunidades para su joven familia fuera de México, por lo que viajaron al norte de los Estados Unidos y llamaron a Los Ángeles su hogar en 1975.

Esto lo llevó a una carrera diversa en varias industrias, desde hotelería y servicios hasta médica y legal, que luego se tradujo en emprendimiento. Al salir de casa, Alma vivió en ciudades del sur de California y viajaba en todo su tiempo libre desde México y hasta Jamaica. En Estados Unidos, se enamoró del lago Tahoe y de las montañas del norte de Nevada, y en 2007 hizo de Reno su nuevo hogar. Sus viajes nunca cesaron: tomó sol en Miami, patinó sobre hielo en Canadá y hizo caminatas en Sedona: dijo sí a la vida y vivió al máximo! Hizo todo eso mientras criaba a tres hermosas niñas, Cassidy, Melody y Alany. Este fue su logro y legado del que más se enorgullece.

 Es difícil capturar una vida tan colorida y dinámica, y una página no le hace justicia. Sin duda Alma es una luchadora, y su lucha contra el cáncer fue la última. Después de luchar durante casi seis años, falleció pacíficamente, rodeada de sus padres, hermana, hijas y nieta, Raya Sunshine. Su lucha ha terminado, pero su recuerdo vivirá en las almas de aquellos a quienes ha tocado profundamente. Después de todo, en español, el nombre Alma significa alma.

 ¡Que tengas mucho apetito! Para la comida, por supuesto, pero también para la vida. Ama a tu familia a pesar de tus diferencias. Ríete con amigos y apóyate en ellos. Nadie debería estar solo. Cree en Dios o en algo que te conecte con un propósito y significado mayor. Viaja porque nuevos lugares y personas amplían tu perspectiva. Canta desafinadamente y baila siempre, ¡a quién le importa quién esté mirando! Lo más importante es decir sí a lo mejor y no tener miedo de lo que viene después.

 Alma Judith Moreno falleció en Torrance, California, el viernes 2 de agosto de 2024. Deja tres hijas, Cassidy, Melody y Alany, y su única nieta, Raya. Rodeada de amor hasta el final, Alma también deja atrás a sus padres, Raúl y Patricia, junto a su hermana Verónica. Alma deja a sus queridas sobrinas, Patty, Crystal, Hennessy, Natalia, Annalie y Brooklyn. Estaba orgullosa de ellas y todas las mujeres de su familia.
